Hayden SUBJECT: PLANT EQUIPMENT re: Relocation of Oil Seal Equipment As agreed, we have placed samples of several materials in Plant 3, in. the area of the equipment involved. The reason was to determine if the die lubricant ndst had a deleterious effect on the materials. We find no measurable effect on the properties of the asbestos materials (VICTOCOR 150 facing, ASBgSTOPRENE 233, BT board, millboard) and precemented steel or the adhesion characteristics of the precemented core. The die lubri cant mist should cause no problem to the materials. However, we should give serious thought to the working conditions present. The noise level has caused physical pain in two of our Materials Engineer ing staff. A brief discussion with Allan Dieter revealed this reaction indicates a noise level of liiO db. The second factor to be considered again is the die lubricant mist. This represents a potential health hazard, and as soon an we identify the chemical composition, we will offer a further comment on this.
