He referred me to Mr. Hamilton, his Manager in Clearfield. I Pound that there are two distinct cases, both employees of the Independent Oil Co.,, and both ^oriting under Mr. Hamilton, I discussed both cases with Mr. Handltoa, and lie assisted me in getting in touch with the doctors on these cases. a The first case is that of Mr. H i H f l H B r n o onJan. 26, 1332 was very suddenly afflicted with paralysis of the right 'aid. lir. 34 years old, and has worked for tno Indapen&eat Oil Co. for sight years a truck driver. The doctors in the case are as follows* Dr. Coudrick-- Dr. . D. Hall Dr. Myers---Dr. falconer-- Dr. Watsrv/orth -- Guearfield, Pa. -- Glen Campbell, Pa. --Johnstown, Pa. Learfield, Pa. -Clearfield, Pa. 'According to he f i r s ^ j m t to Dr. Coudrick who suggested that it might be dus to Ethyl poisoning. .Mr. ^ H H i w a s not satisfied with Dr. Coudrick, and after the second visit wont to Dr. Hall. Dr. Halils opinion was that it was lead poisoning no doubt caused by contact with Ethyl gasoline. However Dr. Hull sent hia to Dr. Dyers in Johnstown for further examination. Dr. Myers took blood tests, etc. and reported to Dr. Hall that it as lead poisoning. Mr. Murray is firmly convinced that this was caused by Ethyl Gasoline. , 1 called both Dr. Coudrick and Dr. Hall. Dr. Coudrick said he did not have the case long enough to aaka any diagnosis, but he thought it was not lean poisoning as frora bis experience he had observed that lead poisoning coass on slowly ohareas tills case very suddenly. Dr. Hall confirmed Mr.' t K E t K m account that his diagnosis was lead poisoning probably caused by Ethyl Gasoline, and he also quoted a report from Dr. Myers to the same effect. 29S0000 3X 1. (Clearfield cases) I learned from Hr. Hamilton that Dr3 Falconer and Y.:atervrarth, considered the best doctors in Clearfield, mads a thorough examination for tho insurance com pany. I was unable to get in touch with either of them but Mr. Hamilton, at my request, &ot in touch with Or. Falconer who finally agreed to tell him the diagnosis which he and the other doctor were going to report to the insurance company. As the report had not been seat in. he. ashed Mr. Hamilton to say no thing about it until the written report had been sent in to the insurance company. Dr.'Falconer diagnosed it as paralysis caused by a blood clot on the brain. He found no traces of lead poisoning and could see no reason why chat should be con sidered a cause of the condition. He believes tniscondition will slowly clear up but it will probably be. a year or more before will be able to do any heavy work. In view of complications which might possibly arise out ol this cuss, and as t?/Q doctors definitely stated that it was lean poisoning X would recommend that Mr. examined by one of our doctors in order to give the medical department actual data on the cans at its worst. In this way Mr. Murray will have no basis for claiming that he lost a year's work from lead poisoning caused by Ethyl Gasoline which was cured at his expense. The second is the case of Mr. who was afflicted last summer with a Severs rash on both, hands, both arms, forehead, and face. Mr. 8 about thirty years old, and' lias bean employed by the Independent Oil CoTxor three years as a service station attendant. The doctcss in the case are as -followsi Dr. J. II. Dr. Woolridge g C T ^ H m an injection of some xind and told him to rub Ethyl Gasoline on the area affectedbv^the injection to determine whether Ethyl Gasoline was actually--the cause. B ^ H ^ ^ d i d not do this. Dr. Woodridge did also give him an ointment which cleared up the rash temporarily, but the .-rash returns unless he uses the ointment continually. On^day whan Dr. Frantz was in the station getting gasoline he noticed the CO rash on the opinion' hand and advised him to keep away from Ethyl Carolina and volunteered it was a case of lead poisoning caused by Ethyl Gasoline. Mr. has not at any tine consulted Dr. Frantz professionally. After Mr. heard of case he became much more worried and believes his trouble Is due to lean poisoning, caused by Ethyl Gasoline. I called both Dr. oolridge and Dr. Frantz. Dr. Woolridge said he had found thatdfl|j^^^ has a very sensitive skin which reacted unfavorably to nil Irritant in g&solxneor oil or a mixture of both, lie thought it possible that it night-be the Ethyl iluia but as he has been unable to determine the exact irritant admitted that as far as he knew any or oil KF 000056 3* (Clearfield cassa) mixture might causa it. He said ho had never seen any cases of lead poisoning from Ethyl Gasoline nor read of ha had heard of soma from uaauthetttic sources, lia said ha had advisseeds H H w oc change his occupation to avoid this type of irritant. Dr. Frantz .was. very anxious to cake'it clear that h. ?,as not given in a professional capacity. Ha however confirmed Mr.* account of the conversation. Ha paid it looked to him as if it nig. .on caused by lead poisoning. Ha again insisted-that it was a vary superficial opinion, and that ha had no- actual data on the case. I think it would be a good idea, to have oui' doctor examine Hickson -at the same tima he examines Murray. There is considerable interest in the town in these t*o cassa and their causes.
