The analytical technique of phase contrast microscopy as recommended by NI0SH and required by OSSA for asbestos fiber counting wns used. Very low fiber counts were observed. The encapsulant coats the outside surface of the insulation but does not penetrate it. Therefore if the ceiling is disturbed, airborne fibers may be released.
