Bohn says. "They-- like myself--derive tremendous satisfaction from helping boys grow." ALT' i Withstands Tough Competition Asbestos Packing Department Observes 50 Years Of Growth A request from a New York manufacturing con cern 50 years ago prompted establishment of a depart ment which recently cele brated a golden anniversary of production success. It was back in 1914 when a friend of the late Board Chair- non P. W. Litchfield huddled ' ith him to discuss a business proposition. He represented Durabla Manufacturing Com pany of New York City, and wanted Goodyear to manufac ture asbestos packings for his company. Litchfield responded to the challenge and initiated the In dustrial Products sheet pack ing department. Fifty years later, Goodyear still sells this product to Dur abla, which distributes it ail over the world in sheet form to gasket cutters. , As department foreman Glen Snidle points out, it is unusual during these days of hectic change in product requirements for a specialized product to withstand the tre mendous competition in the gasket field. _ - ) "r "We've been*ab1e'to <io thi: largely because of pride in workmanship and the produc tion know-how displayed by our asbestos packing emploves," he said.
