BmiODt'CTIOK:
Inmost is interested in reducing their formulating costs by using a less expensive pigment. As a result, they are looking at BT-473-D as a replacement for Bl'-4l7~K. BT-473-B is a less'expensive pigment tban BT-417-P {about 15$ less expensive) end offers satisfactory tinctorial properties, lomont ` s only concern is whether BP-473-i> has adequate flocculatim resistance.
We ran Ihmont'.s flocculation test of BT-473- end compared it against
BB?-<4'17-D . B2?-97- and BT-476-B were also tested to check their flocculation 1
resistance.

BT-417-D shows a
We recommend BT-473-D as a replacement for BT-4l?-D on the basis of slightly better flocculation resistance, comparable strength and tinctorial properties, and better value in use.
SraMAKTs
BT-297-P and BT-473~D do not flocculate by the test, .Bl~4?6-D ' flocculates severely by the test and BT-4l7-I> shows slight flocculation.

v Fresh-inks 'ball milled a`b 15# pigjnent are let down to 30 pignent using Xsmont*? varnish for flocculation tests. We lave heard from Sinclair Valentine that using other solvents to let down- can influence flocculation. We did not encounter this problem because we used Imeonf's varnish for let dovm purposes.
. Flocculation test: Tints of fresh and oven-aged idles were compared for strengths. A loss of strength indicates flocculation occurred during the accelerated aging period. (See at^ched sheet for aging times.) An equal match indicates no flocculation.
