SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS For use in conjunction with Factory Standard #292, Stripping Aluminum Precote from Beaded Gaskets February 10, 1972 The following is a list of safety recommendations established by Department 2^1, Materials Engineering, for observance when stripping Aluminum Precote from beaded gaskets in accordance with Factory Standard #292. It is recom mended that personnel responsible for implementing safety in the plant require the following to be observed and see that they are enforced: 1. The chemicals used for removing Aluminum Precote are very caustic and can cause severe burns on any area of the body contacted. Therefore it is essential that proper apparel be womj that employees are knowledgeable in the use of first aid equipment; and that precautions be taken in handling the stripping solution. 2. Safety apparel required; a. Cloth-reinforced vinyl bib aprons b. long vinyl gloves c. Polyethylene arm protectors d. Clear plastic face shield The aprons, gloves, and arm protectors should be worn by all workers assigned to the stripping operation. The face shield should be worn by the operator working the strip tank} it should also be worn when draining the stripping solution from the drum, when making additions to the stripping tank, and at any other time the stripping solution is handled. The safety apparel should be removed whenever the workers leave their workstation, in order to avoid transferring the chem icals from the protective clothing to other plant equipment and personnel.
