Wofford The PT Safety and Housekeeping Committee met on Wednesday, February 16, 1982. The following items were discussed: SAFETY SEMINAR Final arrangements have been organized for an in-plant safety seminar by Curtin-Matheson Scientific, Inc. The safety topics will be on The Detection of Combustible Cases and The Handling and Disposal of Chemicals. The presen tation will be Tuesday, March 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the Research 2 Conference Room. COMMITTEE MEETINGS The committee decided to have scheduled safety meetings the 3rd Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Research 1 Conference Room. This approach will (1) give concerned individuals an opportunity to voice their opinion about safety considerations and (2) give an immediate feedback of information from the SHAC and PMSB meetings. The Tech CSC meeting will be included on the monthly safety calendars. Additional meetings will be called when a situation for prompt action needs to be taken. FIRE PERMITS FOR LABORATORY PERSONNEL The topic of obtaining a fire permit for use of spark or flame devices in the laboratory by authorized personnel was discussed. The interpretation by the committee of PT Procedure Bulletin No. 9 and Plant Procedure Bulletin No. P-0117 was all authorized personnel assigned to a particular laboratory would not re quire a fire permit. SAFETY SHOWER ALARM The alarm for the safety shower in the catalyst preparation laboratory is acti vated in the Arms bench unit area. The Arms area is "unmanned" and if the alarm was activated, there may not be a response to the catalyst laboratory. A committee has been assigned to investigate alternate laboratories where the safety shower alarm would be monitored. SC 001707 LAM002910 Drug/Alcohol Abuse Program The Tech CSC will coordinate an educational Drug/Alcohol Abuse Program with Bill Latimer of SHAC. Unification . of Gas Regulator Safety Rules John Garton and Dave Truitt have completed the study of unifying the safety rules concerning the use of gas regulators. A separate meeting will be called to discuss this topic due to its complexity. New Committee Chairman Jay Cross will be the next Tech CSC chairman effective March 1, 1983. Tech Center Safety Committee (Tech CSC) The PT S&H Committee has changed its title to Tech Center Safety Committee. The title better represents the host/guest responsibilities for reorganization.
