Horan, Prsident Texas V erm iculite Company P.0. Bax 6306 D allas, Texas 75222 Dear Mika: TEXAS VERMICULITE CO. The Transamerica Investment group In Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been awarded the design and construction o f the Washington Trust B u ild in g In Spokane. As 1 understand I t Washington Trust w ill be the major tenant. This job had bean through p re lim in a ry design In steel w ith a local a rc h ite c t, engineer and con tractor and a ll o f a sudden I t was pulled out and given to Transaoerlca. , We understand the man In charge Is Thomas F. M arshall, K e lly / Marshall Associates, In c ., Fourth National Bank B u ild in g , Tulsa, 7^119. We would ce rtain ly appreciate tdiatever help we can get, p a rtic u la rly to get Mono-Kote as the fire p ro o fin g. ' 1 am enclosing a copy o f the uniform code research recommendation tdilch gives the thicknesses required fo r various hourly ratings and which are applicable fo r the C tty o f Spokane. The ra tin g s required fo r th is type o f b u ild in g would be fo r a 3-hour frame and 2-hour flo o r and roof systems which Include the secondary flo o r and roof beams. Only the col inns and beams connecting the columns require three hours. We are s t i l l using MK-3 lo c a lly and d o n 't a n tic ip a te any problem o f m a in tiln in g th is approval. We would Just as soon not have any reference made to MK*4. - We have good a p p lica to rs serving the Spokane market and I f someone was Interested In a p re-b id p ric e fo r a ty p ic a l flo o r , we would be happy to get one run o u t. , ................................... " ' We would lik e to steer away from the unprotected deck assemblfes and w ith lig h tw e ig h t concrete running $10.03 a yard more In the Spokane market 2 there is a price advantage to going to a protected deck in Jieu of the 3-1 / V of lightweight concrete. In the unhappy event Transamerica plans to go concrete, | would hope your people would try to get Mono-Kote on th pan j o is t assembly. Ue do have something going for us in that Spokane is a Zone TT seismic area and I understand their code requires a ductile frame for buildings over 160 feet which is quite rough for concrete. By using our pan jo is t system the savings of 18 pounds per square foot is quite sig n ific a n t in seismic designing. I realize th is is a whole lot of information but so often 1 have trouble getting information I thought I would give your salesmen something without being-asked for it . I think th is design is going righ t ahead and certainly appreciate whatever your people can do for us. I owe you one! Very truly yours, cc: C.H. Wendel Wal t Pi ck th al1 W illiam V.
