N 26944 COLORED PIGMENTS PRODUCTS R&D ACTIVITIES AND OBJECTIVES Technical accomplishments in 1982 include successful plant [(red Y) and pilot plant (magenta) development of quinacridone products with improved rheological properties for use in new High Solids Automotive Enamels, Total business potential is >400M lb./yr. by 1986. in addition, major Colored Pigments process technology has been upgraded and documented to help improve product quality reproducibility and business productivity. Savings in yield and raw material usage during 1982 amounted to $1.8MM (1.5 factory cost). In 1983 we expect cost reduction programs to provide $1.7MM in annualized savings. Technical programs will be focused primarily on continued development of improved rheology quinacridone products to strengthen our competitive position in the world-wide automotive business.
