Shell - Stanley* & Carrington Asbestos and Health
Confirming our recent conversations, wo received
a report on Tuesday afternoon from Atholl Asbestos
to the effect that Shell Stanlow would no longer be
using Asbestos Rope Lagging andCloth because of
' the naaard to health*
'
"
Me visited them on Wednesday the 2nd August, and spoke to Mr* J* Bell, a Section Loader in Stock Control who had given the information to Atholl. He informed us that Mr. P. Jenkins, Standards Engineer and Dr. Laurie, Medical Officer naa instructed him to suspend further purchases pending investigations.__ Mr. Dell suggested discussions with Mr* Jenkins would be worthwhile but unfortunately he ifas on holiday. However he raturns this week and we will contact him during the next new days*
At Carrington oh Friday morning we were unable to meet Mr. Lloyd, Standards Engineer, but met Mr. Porteous one of his assistants. He informed us that they are actively seeking alternatives to asbestos materials.
Mr. Porteous was of the opinion that the instructions to cease using asbestos materials had coroeTrom the Hague but lie was hot coo clear on this point. Mr. Jenkins at Stanlow nay be able to confirm th i s , alternatively you may be able to chock it from Rochdalo.
Any further information we may obtain will be passed to you immediately.
