OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AROCLOR SUMP
GENERAL: The sump maximum design rate of flow is 250 GPM and appears to be completely separating the second phase from the department effluent. The sump will hold 4000 gallons at a depth of around 3 1/2 feet. This is the maximum height of Aroclor the sump should have in it and should only occur after a major spill. In the north.west comer there is a pump suction pit 18" x 18" x 24". This pit will hold 34 gallons and should collect the Aroclor from the sloped floor.
OPERATION: The pump pit should be pumped out as often as it fills up; ie. 34 gallons. Recom mend that the sump be pumped out once every two weeks. A small Randolph pump has been provided for this purpose. Collect the Aroclor and water in drums and haul to the dump.
INSPECTION AND/OR MAINTENANCE:
When it becomes necessary to pump the sump empty for inspection and/or repairs,
the surrounding ground water must be pumped out first and kept out. A hole has .
been provided for this on hte northeast and southeast corners of the sump. A
pump has not been provided, but the pump should stay in place and run continuously
during the time the sump is empty.
'
The sump pit should be emptied of Aroclor as much as possible. Sump pumpout should proceed with caution so as not to stir-up any Aroclor lying, on the bottom. After the sump has been returned to service, the outside water pumping can be discontinued.

The oil level in the gear reducer should be checked every three days. Fill with
worm gear oil or steam cylinder oils having a viscosity S.U.V. of 135-150
at 210F. Oil purchased at a service station may be used, SAE #140 recommended.
Change after two weeks and every 6 to 8 months thereafter. Tube life expected
to be 4 to 6 weeks, install Tygon R-4000, 3/4 IN O.D., 1/2 IN I.D., 50 ft. long.
