OSHA REGULATIONS RELATED TO VCM AND PVC Date March 19, 1975 Attached are our revised procedures covering the labeling of VCM and PVC. These procedures supercede those issued on December 3, 1974. At the present time, it appears that the attached regulations will be put into effect on April 1, 1975. The current procedures are basically centered around industry standards which have been suggested by The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) and accepted by our Management. We feel that the procedures are practical from an operating standpoint. There are several items in the new procedures that differ from those originally issued. It will now be necessary to label all VCM and PVC shipped after April 1, 1975. OSHA required markings on individual packages will now be in 1/4" high letters rather than 1/2" high letters as was previously suggested. All labels previously issued for the marking of palletized bags, boxes and drums should be held in abeyance. None should be used. Tags will continue to have the required OSHA statement in 3/8" high letters but there will be no Company suggested statement on the revised tags. It is satisfactory to use ,tags previously issued until our inventory is depleted. We will now apply pressuresensitive labels to bulk hopper cars rather than stencil the cars as previously suggested. A sufficient quantity of labels has been ordered and will be forwarded to each location. These will arrive prior to April 1.
