As you are aware, the Chairman has been withholding the call for the next meeting until the required announcement of EPA's expected revised levels for polychlorinated biphenyls and sche duling of a new round of Hearings is made in the Federal Register. It is understood that the announcement may not be forthcoming until the EPA has completed the evaluation stage required under the applicable public law. For your information of what is involved in this evaluation, _ in general and specifically for toxic pollutants, a copy of the third draft of EPA's Water Quality Strategy Paper is attached as EXHIBIT "A". As an indication of the problems facing the EPA in its strategy planning, a copy of the minutes of a recent EPA meeting with Staff representatives from NEMA and other leading industry Associations is attached as EXHIBIT "B". Also, for your information, the Chairman of ANSI C107 at tended a recent meeting of_EPA's Effluent Standard and Water Quality Information Advisory Committee, on the establishment of Workshops to be scheduled in selected industries, in order to develop inputs for EPA's evaluation program.
