During the early 1970's, concern was raised within the drilling industry regarding the health and safety of employees handling asbestos in drillmg muds* , In order to reduce the concentration of airborne asbestos fibers at the rig site, Drilling Specialties Company, the producer of these drilling mud additives, reformulated their drilling mud grade asbestos into a water-soluble flake. Subsequent field tests were con ducted to confirm the reduction in the airborne concentrations of asbestos. The results of these tests are present in Tables X-XXV below.
