During my discussion, we both decided on a protocol,which is as follows 'Numerous studies of the health status and mortality of workers in the vinyl chloride monomer/polyvinyl chloride industry have been reported. It is the intent of this review to examine these reports, in order to * determine their strengths and weaknesses, to look for consistencies and inconsistencies between them, and to draw conclusions about the existence or non-existence of the various occupational hazards, from consideration of the total available evidence. It is intended that the results of the review will be made public, and will be published in the Scientific Literature in the normal way*. I then asked Sir Bichard when he expected the task to be completed, and he felt it would be March 1986. This is due to the fact that he is greatly in demand, and has taken on other tasks since I first approached him. At present, hs is performing a study on Spanish toxic oils. After hs has completed the project, it has been agreed that six people would review it for him, prior to its release, and it was suggested that perhaps it could be reviewed by individuals such as Julian Peto, Geoff Paddle and Ted Tbrkelson.
