German little I feel I used to flatter myself that I could speak enough to find my way around, but since leaving school have had so occasion to read much technical literature in the original, that that I am slipping. I certainly appreciate fully the honor of being Pres ident of the National Safety Council, but it does take even more time than 1 expected, although the world will probably manage to stagger a long even if ny consultile practice is more or less limited for another year. On the other hand, my many friends have offered to relieve me of as much of the burden as possible and I am taking every advantage of such offers. We had a well attended meeting of the Executive Committee last Monday, some'twenty-three being present, which in these times is a considerable indication of the importance of our work, dont you think? You have the minutes and note the disposition of the item relative to "Health Protection in Sand Blasting and Metallic Abrasive Cleaning," I hope and think that your keen insight into affairs will lead you to judge that this solution will be generally acceptable and for the best inter ests of the Council. I read the German reprint with considerable interest, and while by no means as well informed on the details of the subject as so many others are, X cannot get away from the thought that such a digest of our comnittee's report uar something relatively like it should not only be unobjectionable to all concerned, but might be a valuable contribution if the article for publication referred to in item 5 of -the Minutes of the Executive Committee meeting could take some such form. May I solicit your personal opinion as to whether or not the above thoughts are logical, and especially whether you will be good enough to assist the staff in the preparation of some such publication, at least by review and by comment, I have mentally assumed that you will do so and hope that Dr. Cummings may feel the same v ay. It does seem that even the foundry interests and other object ors could find little to criticise in your summary of conclusions. There does not seem to be any logical reason why the actual publication of advices by the National Safety Council must necessarily use the exact words of its technical committee's report, and in the present state of our funds, reasonable and logical abbreviation before publication would be a distinct advantage* I still feel very bad that I had to stay in Washington an extra day and could not keep my date with Dr. Cannon in Boston on Oct ober 7th. Your own comments on him and his character and ability have been so fully confirmed by eminent Physiologists, whom I have talked with, that I more than ever am anxious to meet him. The oxygen therapy problem is growing so that although I feel he will concur with other eminent Physiologists with whom I have discused this, it is difficult to feel satisfied until his name has been added to those who are in accord with this modern development. I was co-author of another paper on the subject, given in New York while I was in St. Louis at the American College of Surgeons Meeting, and I am going to send you a reprint as soon as they sre off the press. You will be doing me a very distinct personal favor, if at any time you would care to advise me relative to any developments in the field of oxygen therapy which you find may not be taking a logical course, I do hope you will be able to attend the next Executive Committee Meeting and if you can find time to comment on the foregoing it will be greatly appreciated.
