Environmental Working Group: I want to thank you for your letter to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection regarding the contamination of drinking wati by C-8. Unfortunately, West Virginia drinking water supplies are not the only c affected by the C-8 contamination. Studies have shown that drinking \ supplies in Ohio are affected as well. C-8 has been detected in Ohio w. supplies as far as 15 miles downstream from where DuPont discharge; the Ohio River. I am general manager of the Little Hocking Water Association (LHWA) drinking water supply for the LHWA is from wells located directly aero; River from DuPont's Washington Works plant. The prevailing wind is fr directly toward our wellfield. C-8 levels detected in our wellfield far exceed any found in the West V drinking water supplies. C-8 has been detected in all of our production the highest being over 8.0 ppb (we are currently not using this well). : borings were done in our wellfield in August of this year. A test sampl< boring yielded a C-8 level of 78.0 ppb. Obviously, we are concerned about the C-8 contamination of our drink supply. Tests have shown C-8 levels of about 2.0 ppb in our water dist system.
