We have a customer by the name of owns and oper ates the Hill Street Service Station here at Miami. He bought this stretch one year ago February 15th, 1929, prior to that time he had been a Churn Drill operator, and had never been connected with a service station. He has been very successful in this venture, he handles both our White Gasoline and our Ethyl, his sale of Ethyl being about on an average of 500 gallons per month which is about one seventh of his total Gasoline gallonage. About six months ago he began to feel very badly, and complained of a dull headache and during the past sixty to ninety days began having some very bad spells at night, several hours after he had retired. These spells would be very severe, he would be completely out of his head, would take several men at times to hold him down, they would have the doctor, and then the next day Gilmore would not have any knowlecge of what had taken place during the night, but would be weak and have a dull headache. He had the local doctors examine him, had blood tests, X-rays, urine tests, and also went through the Clinic at Phoenix. They all agreed that they did not know what was wrong with the fellow. The spells continued and his friends finally pursuaded him to to Mayo Brothers, which he did about ten days ago. Today his wife came in very much elated, having re ceived a letter from Mr. p H B B P t e l l i n g her that the doctors had located his trouble as being Lead deposited in the brain, and caused from handling Ethyl Gasoline at his service station. j I have written you fully, and think it would be well to check on Mayo Brothers and find out just what their findings 'were, no doubt this story will go the rounds, and it might be possible that M r . has misconstrued their meaning in some manner. I can picture our,1" at some time, having Labor compensation trouble with just such a case as this if Mayo Brothers would fix the responsibility on Dealers handling Ethyl Gasoline, and our hired help might begin to have strange headaches, and wild spells at night. We felt that Mr. headache was probably the result of chronic carbon monoxide poisoning in a rather highly susceptible individual. He was dismissed from the Clinic on rhe twenty--fifth of last month with the suggestion that he remain away from work for a month or so. His only complaint was headache of five months' duration; it was almost constant and worse about three o'clock in the morning. During his stay in Rochester, however, his headache improved somewhat. Our routine examination and laboratory studies were essentially negative; a blood count;including differential was within normal limits. A complete neurologic examination was made and found to be objectively negative and the neurolbgists also felt that carbon monoxide seemed the most likely cause of his headaches. | We considered the possibility of ethyl , gasoline being a factor! In the production of his complaint, but as Mr. , j t / a P has only a small filling station and handles very little ethyl ' j,d~` gas, we oould not consider this seriously as a factor.
