Sharp This is Co communicate a revision in gasket specification for the plant. Four of the existing gasket specifications are being changed to an Improved design as follows: The 150# 316ss flexible graphite filled spiral wound gasket is being revised to a 5000psi winding. This replacement will be set up in stores under the existing MICS MCC numbers for all sizes. These gaskets will be recognized by a dark green outer ring with a gray band and a sky blue band, the outer ring will be notched in'threAjplaces, and the number 5000 will be stamped into the outer ring. Thls~gasket will also be identified for the 150# flanges as are the old gaskets. The 300# 316ss flexible graphite filled spiral wound gasket is being revised to a 5000psi winding. This replacement will be set up in stores stock under the existing MICS MCC numbers for all sizes. These gaskets will be recognized by a dark green outer ring with a gray band and a sky blue band, the outer ring will be notched in three places, and the number 5000 will be stamped into the outer ring. This gasket will also be identified for the 300# flanges as are the old gaskets. NOTE: As with the current gaskets a 150# gasket will physically fit in a 300# flange, and care must continue to be taken to prevent improper application. The 150# 316ss micarb (or flexite super) filled spiral wound gasket is being revised to a 5000psi winding. As with other gasket revisions this gasket will be set up in stores stock under the existing MICS MCC numbers for all sizes. These gaskets will be recognized by a dark green outer ring, with a pink band and a sky blue band, and the number 5000 will be stamped into the outer ring. This gasket will also be identified for use in 150# flanges as are the old gaskets. c 004003 LAM023246 5000 PSI Gaskets August 1, 1986 Page 2 The 300# 316 micarb (or flexite super) filled spiral wound gasket Is being revised to a 5000psi winding. This revision of the gasket specification to a 5000psi crush strength is to improve bolting stresses in flanged joints using these gaskets and to allow an easier seal. The existing stock of gaskets will be used. As mentioned this gasket revision is intended to improve upon the old gasket, this does not mean the old design gaskets are unusable and there is no need to change out gaskets currently in place. It may be desirable to use the new gasket in areas where flange/leakage problems have been encountered in the past even if the old stock has not been used up, as these gaskets are easier to seal. These revised gaskets are not intended to replace other types of gaskets currently in use such as sheet gaskets, ring gaskets etc., these revisions apply only to spiral wound 316ss gaskets. In addition, this revision of crush pressure will not be applicable in flange ratings above 300#, because of sealing limitations. While this change in specification is apparently minor and is not readily apparent by inspection (except for the color coding), this memo is intended to inform the necessary personnel of the change to prevent any confusion regarding gasket specifications, please pass this information on to the personnel in your organization for their use. If you have any questions regarding this revision, please contact myself, G. Tv Butler, or L. D. Arnold to resolve. CWR/cf C. W. Ramsay C 004004 LAM023247
