The Aurora Insulations Division showed a loss of approximately $21,000, due mostly to the fact that OPA was controlling prices - and material had to be sold at a loss. In July, through the efforts of Ed Streit, Frank Pollen and Ray Foltz, they were able to secure a 20^ increase in OPA ceiling prices. The last quarter of the year showed a profit of approximately $3,000, due to this increase in price - and an additional 17^ increase which was put into effect December 1st.
During the year several improvements were made at Aurora, among them being the Shot Conveyor which permitted the elimination of one (1) man on the force ... and saves the company money in hauling charges.
Another one of the improvements was the Unloading Tipple permitting the unloading of coke and slag at one-third (1/3) the usual cost.
