First and foremost, we look forward to finding a resolution to that imminent issue and request that representatives of the EPA meet/have a dialogue with the USCG, the State of Alaska, and other stakeholders to discuss how to marshall any and all available resources to remove this sinking vessel from a very active and important harbor. Our conversations this morning covered a wide range of issues regarding abandoned and derelict vessels, more generally, and I would like to reiterate that our primary long-term interest is to determine whether a collaborative or creative approach may be utilized to also achieve a more long-term solution to a recurring problem here in Alaska. As you well know, Alaska has more coastline than the rest of the continental US combined. Additionally, many of the vessels involved in various activities in and around Alaska are registered outside of Alaska. Often times, as these vessels age and transition into a state of disrepair, the vessels are often transferred to owners who lack the resources, knowledge, or ability to keep these vessels seaworthy. Further, many of these owners lack the assets or insurance to rectify a situation like, for example, the F/V AKUTAN, which is currently about to sink. Our hope is to best avoid vessels from being abandoned and sunk in an unsafe or uncontrolled manner. As a result of our concentrated focus on the immediate F/V AKUTAN challenge, we hope that we may be able to find practical solutions to this recurring issue, which is important to all of us and our environment. Thank you again for your time, we look forward to continuing the dialogue hopefully early next week, and we are very grateful that someone with so much personal knowledge and expertise of some of Alaska's unique challenges is involved in helping us brainstorm a pragmatic resolution.
