Subject: Pruitt in 2016 calling Trump "empty vessel" on Constitution
Hello,
Hope you are doing well. Wanted to see if EPA wanted to comment on something on Mr. Pruitt related to his comments assailing Trump in 2016.
Mr. Pruitt made similar comments on another occasion in February 2016 on the "Exploring Energy" radio show on KECO. Were gonna write about it and see if you wanted to comment.
"Trump is somebody that I think that he has demonstrated and really responded to the frustration that people have. I think he really stands for the proposition that we need action and authenticity in the process," he said. "We need someone that's willing to take on China, willing to take on these countries internationally from a trade perspective. I appreciate that about his campaign."
Mr. Pruitt then assailed Trump, saying he did not think he would respect the rule of law.
"But let me tell you something," Pruitt said, "I think he's an empty vessel when it comes to things like the Constitution and rule of law. I'm very concerned that perhaps if he's in the White House, that there may be a very blunt instrument as the voice of the Constitution. This president, the one we have there now, has at least tried to nuance his unlawfulness. He at least sits back and says, `How do we break the law and so where it's really tough to show that we have?' I'm not sure that Donald Trump would."
"We just need to make sure that we get somebody in there that respects the Constitution, respects the rule of law, that restores the proper balance between the states and federal government," added Pruitt. "I have great confidence Jeb Bush would do that. I have confidence that others would as well, but the time I spent with him, he's the most humble person I met and we need more humility in the White House and less hubris."
