Pruitt last appeared before the committee in December for an oversight h earin g , but the committee has not yet scheduled an appearance on the administration's budget unveiled last month. Ranking Member F ran k Pall one (D-N.J.) and Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Paul Tonko (DN.Y.) say they have questions about "drastic" cuts to various agency programs, regulatory rollbacks, Pruitt's first-class travel habits and "disregard for transparency," among other issues. They note to Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) and Environment Subcommittee Chairman John Shimkus (R-H1.) that the committee never held a budget hearing with Pruitt in 2017. "This lack of accountability, while entirely consistent for Administrator Pruitt, is unacceptable," they write. "You have an obligation, and the means to compel him to appear before the Committee, and we request that you do so." An EPA spokesman said the agency would work with the committee. "Once again Democrats are going to the press before making us aware of their request," EPA spokesman Jahan Wilcox wrote in an email. "We will work with the House Energy and Commerce Committee on this matter."
