DUDAS SAFETY DEPARTMENT ALCOA TECHNICAL CENTER 1979 August 31 RE: ASBESTOS SURVEY RESULTS Presently our program of eliminating all non-essential asbestos has created an awareness by the division/department as to the need for replacements. The survey conducted in April, 1979, highlighted the majority of the applications where asbestos is still in use. I have reviewed this information, and have compiled a list of the asbestos products in most need of substitutes. This can be found in Attachment I. Unfortunately, large concentrations of asbestos are uncovered as safety related problems are brought to our attention. (Homogenizing furnaces. Fabricating Metallurgy; small furnaces in for repair. Machine Shop; vertical furnace. Testing Labs, Bldg. D; aluminized clothing, Bldg. B; etc.) Within the next nine months, or as s-on after viable substitutes for the list in Attachment I are located, a second survey should be conducted to pinpoint any weak areas. ^t is my intention to work with M.
