Subject: Bird Roof Guarantee Bond No. 10-S-P-B/U8646
Dear Mr. Jester:
This is in response to your May 6, 1985 letter addressed to the Shreveport plant.
I
Bird is in the process of centralizing the handling of built-up roofing bonds. Thus we are no longer able to make field inspections as you have requested.
You stated roof leaks have been discovered and you have expressed'concern for the building contents. As shown on the bond document, you may proceed to have emergency repairs made without invalidating the bond.
You may wish to consider having the original roofing contractor, Motley's Roofing Co., of Longview, Texas, make the emergency repairs.
We note from the bond file that the roofing membrane is a four ply smooth surface assembly with a well established service record. Thus it is difficult for us to understand why the roof should leak at this time.
We also note from the bond file that leaks reported in 1983 were caused by roof drain and vent pipe problems rather than the membrane itself. You may wish to consider having your own maintenance people investigate this as a possible cause for the current leakage.
If you believe that roofing-membrane repairs-are required, we ask that you have Motley's Roofing Co. send us a report that indicates the extent of repairs needed and the cost to make the repairs. When we receive the roofing contractor's report we will then be in a position to determine if the cost of repairs are covered under the terms and conditions of the Bird Roof Guarantee Bond. We have enclosed a report form for the convenience of Motley's Roofing in sending us the information needed. If Motley's Roofing is unavailable, we suggest you ask a well established roofing contractor in or near the Daingerfield area to send us their report.

We do wish to call your attention to the amount of guarantee, viz., $2,000 shown on the face of subject bond. This amount is the maximum amount of money available to make repairs under the terms and conditions of the bond.
Rather than delaying a reply to you even longer, your letter is being answered from this office. If you have additional inquiries, please direct them to:
