Quite some time ago I received a'letter from Mr, Lienhard Informing me of some discussions which he had had with a Professor Desgrez concerning certain investigations which might be carried out in France .comparable to those done by us and by the British Com mittee* I had already written to Mr. Lienhard pointing out to him the danger of having work done which might be regarded critically because either of the personnel or character of the work which might be done* I ans wered M s last letter by saying that I should, like very much to know all of the details of the work which might be planned before it was embarked upon. In my letter- I also stated that my definite impression was tp the effect that you did not feel that there was any point in spending any considerable sum of money in France in carrying out this type of work at the present time* Mr* Lienhard stated that he intended writing you on the subject* and perhaps he has done so* I intended discussing this matter with you when I saw you in Detroit* but for a variety of reasons I failed to do so.
