Summers DATE: May 27, 1987 SUBJECT: Minutes of "Future Asbestos Disposal Site(s)" Meeting John Kyle, Robert Newberger, Keith Purinton and I met to review the status of our present asbestos^landfill. For those who don't know, the present asbestos landfill is located nearly due East of the Main Sub-station and South of the road leading to the #2 Landfill. The area is "dead land" so to speak because of the closer ness to the main electric power lines coming into the Plant. The following consensus and/or action plans developed from this meeting: (1) Conservatively, the present landfill will last for one more year. In our consideration for this conclusion were: (a) The Plant's average annual activity around asbestos removal; (b) That the six methyl's distillation column would get stripped within the next 12 months; and (c) That there most likely would be $400M worth of 838 type asbestos removal work during the next 8-10 months. (2) When the present site is expended, the asbestos insulation burial will be moved to the #2 Landfill site which is the preferred site at this time. UCC 020024 Page 2 (3) Action Plans: (a) At the end of the summer re-estimate the time remaining for the present burial site. Responsibility: J. Kyle/K. Purinton By: 10/1/87 (b) When 3 to 6 months time remains for the present burial site, determine that #2 Landfill is available, and how we would go about the actual burial that is required within 24 hours of dumping bagged asbestos. Responsibility: K. Purinton/R. Newberger/J. Kyle By: Check point at 10/1/87 (c) Set up a procedure/grid network for C. Brown to follow in burying asbestos insulation. This is needed to better insure the total utilization of the current site. Responsibility: J. Kyle By: 6/30/87 (d) Document where we have buried asbestos. Vandenberg SUBJECT: Asbestos Disposal I had a conversation today with Charlie Brown and he informs me that a considerable amount of asbestos insulation is being stripped in the Silanes Department. His concern is that we have run out of room to bury any more asbestos in the present burial location. He would like to know where to put this recent "flood" of asbestos that must be buried on a daily basis.
