Ralph Cook's comments are on the yellow tabs of paper for your review. Since the public release of this report will not occur until January, could we possibly ask Statistics Canada to do a "latency analysis" on the data. This is a standard occupational epidemiology procedure for studies such as this one. I discussed this with you last August but you felt that the public release of the report was going to occur in the early Fall and did not want the report delayed for additional analyses at that time. However, since we have a couple of months still to wait, I think it would be well worth it to have this extra analysis done. It would take Statistics Canada very little time to do the analysis. All they do is "lag" the date data by 15 years and then rerun the Monson-type computer program. I would then get the printouts and have Angie (the epidemiology department's secretary) type up the two extra tables. Minimum text would have to be written. I am as sure as one can be without seeing the actual data that the latency analysis won't show anything unusual. However, not doing it always begs the question of "why wasn't it done" by our critics/reviewers. I don't want to throw you any curve-balls at this late stage but I really believe this would close up the one major loop-hole that we have not done as far as data analyses. Hopefully you will have a few minutes while in Midland for the Medical Meeting so that we can meet and discuss Ralph's comments (with Ralph if you like) as well as my suggestion and anything else that may have come up about this report. 1 will be in my office the entire week.
