Test for grit is made by decantation with water, using a 25 gram sample and m 800 or a 1000c.c. beaker. Not less than 750 c. c. of water shall be used for the first washing, so that any grit present will settle freely and not be held in suspension. 0.17, fine grit permitted. U. S. Light gray, shall be equal or lighter in color than standard sample. Representative samples shall be taken from each shipment for test. If the asbestos is ununiform in screen test and water carrying capacity, it shall be blended by any suitable method. REMARKS Tests on each carload of asbestos floats shall be compared with tests of original shipment from same supplier, which was found satisfactory. If any of the tests indicate doubt as to its suit ability for use in joint finisher, it shall be tested in a laboratory batch. If this test shows the material to be unsatisfactory, the shipment shall be rejected. HANDLING PRE CAUTIONS : A dust mask should be worn when handling this raw material.
