It is felt that a study on the atmospheric concentrations on allies and oilicate duct associated vith rclinir.g the furnaces Id cf immediate importance. In many cases it is highly desirable to obtain information on cer tain exposures, although that information might be negative. It cannot be assumed that industrial hygiene represents an engineering function alone, but on the other hand the fact mast bo accepted that proper investigation of en vironmental problems necessitates the toes wort of the physician and the engineer. This has not yet been done to any appreciable `extent within the Company. In summary I should say that some of the environmental problems have boen recognized and have been studied in a fairly complete fashion, Many others have been recognized; but their study has haem extremely in complete and insufficient data were developed to permit indicated omalycio of the problem. Although some of these problems have received attention, there are groat areas of deficiency with respect to other problems concern ing their existence, extent, and nature of control methods required.
