SYOENSTRICKER -11- BUSINESS CONFIDENTIAL LESS SERIOUS HEALTH CONCERNS LH 1 Asbestos Insulation Exposed and deteriorated asbestos insulation can be found throughout the facility on pipes, stacks, tanks, etc. The existence of the asbestos and the need for its eventual removal has been recognized by unit management. Some asbestos removal project have been completed, others are in progress. However, many more removal/enclosure or encapsulation projects need to be done. The old insulation is not labeled. Recommendation Identify and label asbestos insulation. Asbestos insulation which is exposed and deteriorated should be prioritized for removal. Asbestos insulation that is still functional can either be removed or repaired. If asbestos insulation is recovered, it should be labeled. LH 2 Noi se A survey of personnel exposure to noise has not been conducted in the last 2 years as required. An engineering noise control survey, however, has been conducted. The latter survey identified several noise sources that operate in excess of 87dBA. Recommendation Request a personnel noise survey of the unit. Also follow-up on the recommendation summarized in R. H. Hudson's 4/87 memo including: a. Acoustic treatment of steam turbine exhaust side expansion joints. b. Silencers on several electric motors found to exceed 85 dBA. c. Silencers for the solenoid air discharges on Sonic Ash Shaker. d. Acoustic insulation of #4 I.D. Gear box. e. Acoustic insulation of valve/6" discharge piping over to Ethane K.O. Pot.
