OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
GLEASON NO. 116 HYPOID GENERATOR
PART I
INSTALLATION OF MACHINE
FOUNDATION PLAN
Adequate space must be provided so that the operator will have access to all sides of the machine.
The foundation plan sent with the machine shows the floor space required, and the positions of the three points of support. An additional copy may be found in the back of this manual. (See Page 31). A reasonably rigid and level founda tion should be provided so that the machine will rest evenly on these three supports.
Recesses have been provided in the frame so that the machine may be moved by the use of lifting hooks. A wooden block, felt or other pod ding should be used wherever the chain will chafe, the machine.
When a crane is not available for lifting, proper care should be taken in handling the machine with skids.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Follow the data on installation instructions attached to the machine relative to the following:
1. Straps are used to secure the sliding base to the frame to prevent shifting during ship ment. These must be removed.
2. Before leaving the factory, all exterior finished surfaces of the machine are coated with a rust preventative, which may be easily removed with kerosene or similar solvent. These surfaces should be protected with a light coat of oil.
3. Electric power is brought into the machine at 7 Fig. 2. A built-in conduit connects from this point to the main electric control compart ment under 2 Fig. 1. A detailed wiring dia gram is supplied with the machine, which should be referred to before connecting the feed wires to the main line switch.
4. The direction of the hydraulic motor should be checked at 1 Fig. 1. If wrong, reverse two wires of the main line switch. The phase, voltage and frequency of the power supply must be as specified.
5. The machine has a combined lubricating and hydraulic system with a 28 gallon capacity reservoir. Fill through door 3 Fig. 2 with light hydraulic oil 140-160 SSU at 10OF. Check level at 10 Fig. 2. For detailed infor mation, refer to "Lubrication and Hydraulic System"--Part IV.
6. Fill coolant reservoir through chip removal door 1 Fig. 2, or the machine pit, with 35 gallons of cutting oil. Check level at 2 Fig. 2.
