Ae requested in your April 28, 19&0 letter, Climate Control has oonduoted a Burvey of planned and presently released hardware to identify materials con taining or suspected of containing potentially carcinogenic chromium or ben zene.
Chromates are widely used to produce a conversion coating on aluminum surfaces ' for improved corrosion resistance and adhesion of secondary protective eoat-
ings. Both the air conditioning evaporator and condenser are protected with chromium containing substances. Bo substitutes are currently available for use on these surfaoes that do not impose prohibitive heat transfer penalties.
Sealers and adhesives formulated to comply with six different Company material specifications are suspected of benzene content. These materials and appropri ate specifications are shown on the attached table.
