THE GLIDDEN COMPANY FROM Mr. S. T. Bowe 11 dat e Aug. 17, 1967 CITY Cleveland, C&R Research Center ANSWERING LETTER OF subj ect d u p o n t p r ime r FOR , -;>Mr. E. E. Saville CC: Dr. H. J. Kiefer - UCB Mr. E. B. Euchner Dr. Kiefer informs me that Mr. Neidhardt is inquiring regarding our position relative to DuPont's new development (disclosed only recently) of a latex primer suitable for use on bleeding wood. This product is their No. 51 Primer, one quart of which has been purchased on August 16th from Town Paint. We note that the product contains equal weights of titanium dioxide and basic carbonate of white lead, and an acrylic latex. Please evaluate this material on redwood or red cedar, under blistering conditions, we do not wish to wait until next January or February to see whether or not this primer will control bleeding under actual house exposure conditions, so you will have to set up the blister box to get these results. Compare the DuPont system on this wood to the Glidden system involving an oil primer. STB/ab S. T. Bowe11 GLD006095 N 2253
