Hoagland ~ Dear John: This letter confirms our verbal conversation on June 21st, 1963, concerning the replacement of the aft seal liner on the SS ESSO GETTYSBURG at the first routine inspection of the tail shaft.in dry dock. As described, and shown on enclosed drawing C-SK-267* for record purposes, the aft liner for the GETTSYBURG was erroneously drilled with a drill jig for another ship which had an 18 hole circle. On the first routine removal of the propeller and tail shaft, we will exchange the liner with one properly drilled to duplicate the other three ships in this class, at no liner cost to you. The SS ESSO WASHINGTON and the following two ships in this class will have aft.liners drilled as shown on the approved assembly drawing DD-O6I4.-OOO-OO5. Yours truly. JMG:r Enel.
