Wilde, of the Atlantic Refining Company of Philadelphia we have attempted to secure a copy of the Bureau of Mines publication entitled "Experimental Study on the Effect of Ethyl Gasoline and it's Combustion Products." Our Washington representative has informed us that this publication is no longer available. Our representative rr.aae contact -with Dr. Sayer of the United States Bureau of Mines who suggested that your corporation would be in position to give us information concerning, the effect of Ethyl Gasoline and its combustion products on the human economy. Our interest in this subject has developed because of a Work men's Compensation Claim which has been presented to us. Hamburg^^Tennsvlvania for Workmen's Compensation purposes. an employee of St. John's Cemetery diedJuLyG^^^5^v'"Hxs wife filed a petition for Workmen's Compensation benefits in which she states that Mr. was employed as a maintainance man, mowing grass anddigginggraves for the Cemetery and tint he suffered an accident on May 4# 1946 because he was exposed to exhaust fumes by a gasoline digger for graves and that he contacted lead poisoning as a result of his exposure to the fumes of the burning gasoline. Mar. 1, 1947 Oar investigation leads us to believe that it Is not possible for the claimant to have Ingested lead in the manner described in tie claim petition,. 4qwever, in order to defend the case properly, we shall need proper proof. However, there is some question as to whether or not Ethyl Gasoline was actually used, in the operation. If we are success ful in proving that even with the use of Ethyl Gasoline, the claimant's case could never have developed, we shall certainly be able to prove that he could not have ingested lead from gasoline which contained no leo.d.
