December 7, 1983 subject OSHA Standard for Hazard Communication Enclosed for your immediate review is a copy of the Hazard Comnunication standard recently promulgated by OSHA. The standard applies to all industries in SIC Codes 20 through 39 and mandates specific requirements for hazard communication including labeling, material safety data sheets, and employee training. There are three different effective dates: 1. November 25, 1985 - Chemical manufacturers and importers shall label containers and hazardous chemicals leaving their workplaces and provide material safety data sheets with initial shipments. 2. November 25, 1985 - Distributors shall be in compliance with all provisions applicable to them. 3. May 25, 1986 - Employers shall be in compliance with all provisions including initial training for all current employees. Our immediate concern is making certain that Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available for each chemical or compound used at your facility. If you do not have an MSDS for each chemical, please contact Lloyd Ericson of this office.
