Vice President Gui called me back on Sunday and told me that the university will continue to support me as the PI representing Fudan University in the SHS project, because the original contract does not specify 2006 as the end of the project and I and my staff have worked with the project for 6 years. Vice President Gui stated that to make sure the project will be completed smoothly all original staff of the projects should be kept and the JCML should be also kept in the School of Public Health. If Dr. Irons has new projects in other fields or has other plans for the lab in the future, he can sign with another department after we have completed the SHS. Vice President Gui said that the university will officially give me his response in writing as soon as he has the time available to prepare a letter. In addition I would also like to report to you the issues of NHL patients at the Tumor Hospital. I do not have access to the number of patients actually in the SHS. I first leaned about the NHL patient problem when Dr. Otto Wong visited Shanghai in September. After then we discussed with the Tumor Hospital and changed the work flow-chart. To make sure that we implement the new work flow-chart we arranged a retired nurse Ms. Lu Yuanhua from the Tumor Hospital to work with us. Ms. Lu has been working for us since October last year and has made significant progress. I have prepared a new contract with the Tumor Hospital and also asked them to provide an office for Ms. Lu. Currently the contract is under review by lawyer of the hospital and I expect the contract to be completed this week. I hope this clarifies the position of Vice President Gui of our university and my future role in the SHS. I will continue to update you on our progress at the Tumor Hospital. And Irons reported the hiring of the nurse at the Tumor Hospital nearly 2 months ago, so I wonder where Fu has been all this time.
