A series of three tests were run similar to C in our report of 8-20-1^5
Series A consisted of tubes chosen at random from 200 cleaned by
the old method,

Series B consisted of 10 tubes chosen at random from 5I4. specially prepared and individually wrapped tubes.
Series C consisted of the 10 tubes of A above cleaned by us accord ing to the procedure outlined in the report of 8-2O-J4.5*

Remarks

The tubes (A and B series) show some improvement over the first batch tested 8 **2 0 -1j.5 . The special cleaning procedure as carried out by the Becton-Dickinson Company does not show any
improvement over their regular method. The C series shows that
the contamination can be reduced by proper cleaning. An aberrant (0 .6 0 ) result raised the average to O.lo microgram while an 0 ,1 0 microgram average was obtained when this aberrant result was discarded.
In connection with the shipment of 200 tubes, these were so poorly packed that 52 were found broken when the package was
opened.

Recommendations 1 . It is recommended that for our own use the tubes
and stoppers be purchased as separate Items and that they be cleaned and prepared (evacuated) In our laboratory.
2 A Vacutainer capable of holding 0 ml. of blood would be useful for our plasma work.
5 . It is further recommended that the B-B people do more work in perfecting their procedure for cleaning the Vacutainer.
