As I noted after yesterday' s trade roundtable discussion, these letters are intended to reiterate the importance of maintaining One National Program via a negotiated agreement between the federal government and California. We know the true work now begins following the release o f the NPRM and various proposals for public comment. I have also included senior DOT and EPA officials and staff on this email, similar to my outreach yesterday concerning our statement regarding the NPRM announcement. Please let us know if you have any questions. Dave Joint Auto Alliance and Global Automakers Statement regarding the joint NPRM: Sierra Club v. EPA 18cv3472 NDCA Tier 13 ED 002061 00181619-00001 Today DOT and EPAjointly released their proposed ruleforfuture vehicle efficiency standards to seek consideration of and comments on a range of scenarios. This is the process included as part of the 2012joint rulemaking between thefederal government and California to ensurefuel economy standards are based on the best available data and reflect marketplace realities, and we will be offeringfeedback during the comment period. Today, the Auto Alliance and Global Automakers release this statement: 44We applaud the President and the Administration for releasing this much anticipated proposal that includes a variety of standards for public consideration. Automakers support continued improvements in fuel economy and flexibilities that incentivize advanced technologies while balancing priorities like affordability, safety, jobs, and the environment. With today's release of the Administration's proposals, it's time for substantive negotiations to begin. We urge California and the federal government to find a common sense solution that sets continued increases in vehicle efficiency standards while also meeting the needs of America's drivers."
