FINDINGS HIGHLIGHT
18 types of PFAS congeners found in samples tested in this study
37 out of 40 (92.5%) of analysed samples of product contained PFAS
11 out of 13 (84.6%) of textile samples contained PFAS
15 out of 16 (94%) of paper samples contained PFAS.
The highest PFAS congeners detected in textile was 6:2 diPAP with 30,178 ng/g in a hijab;
The highest PFAS congeners detected in paper was 6:2 diPAP with 2,043 ng/g in an imported microwaveable popcorn bag;
Both samples of microwaveable popcorn bags from Indonesia and the USA contained 6:2 FTOH, PFHxA, and PFBA; and
The most frequently detected PFASs congeners were 6:2 FTOH, PFHxA, PFOA, PFHpA and PFBA, PFDA and PFDoA.

HIGHLIGHT OF FINDINGS
All analysed samples of product contained PFAS;
4 types of PFAS congeners found in samples tested in this study are 8:2 FTOH, 6:2 diPAP, 6:2/8:2 diPAP, and 12:2 FTOH.
21 out of 25 samples (84 %) of the analysed contained 8:2 FTOH.
The highest PFAS congeners detected in all samples was 6:2 diPAP with 30,178 ng/g from Indonesia - Hijab.
The highest PFAS congeners detected in China was 6:2 FTOH with 129 ng/g in Winter Gloves.
The highest PFAS congeners detected in Russia was 6:2 FTOH with 1,790 ng/g in Winter Gloves.
DISCUSSIONS
XY PFAS congeners is expected to be present in the samples.
The number of identified congeners is limited by availability of analytic standards.
Moreover, FTOH-based side-chain fluorinated polymers are not detectable by used analytical method (but can be expected in the samples as per presence of FTOH
INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS
The Stockholm Convention
PFOS to its global restriction list in 2009 and PFOA to its list for global elimination in 2019.
Outside the provisions of the Stockholm Convention, Indonesia and Russia have not adopted any additional regulatory control over PFAS.
China
PFOS, its salts and PFOSF (perfluorooctanesulfonyl fluoride) were listed on the List of Priority Control Chemicals in 2017 and is on the List of Strictly Restricted Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals.
PFOA and its salts were listed on the List of Priority Control Chemicals in 2020.
RECOMMENDATIONS (1/2)
For industries
Stop the use of PFAS ingredients in new products
Disclose PFAS content in products with clear warning signs/labels/icons on the products
Companies that have shifted to fluorinefree alternatives should get their products certified through independent, third party verification procedures
For all stakeholders
Come together and unite in promoting and alerting the public about the hidden pollution and harms posed by PFAS substances
Support and implement a strong policy to eliminate PFAS in Indonesia.
RECOMMENDATIONS (2/2)
Significantly increase efforts towards transitioning to safe, nonPFAS alternatives, including establishing ambitious deadlines for phasing out PFAS as a class for all uses not essential for the functioning of society.
Significantly increase availability of information to support this effort, including analytical methods, hazard data for PFAS and information about non-PFAS alternatives.
Work towards full transparency of PFAS content in products and support consumers' right to know and choose PFAS-free products.
