PURPOSE
To consider the indications of the effect of using Australian Blue fibre in the fibre blends for pressure pipe and couplings*
DATA
Australian blue fibre is one of the blue fibres used in pressure blends. It is also -the most costly* Comparison of cost per ton are:

The Australian blue fibre is packed in 87# bags whereas other fibres are packed in 100# bags* The .87# bag creates a problem in measurement while miring batches at the Villowing operation*
The period of January thru June 1959> was studied and .figures .relating to formed stock
usage, ultimate recovery, and fibre usages were accumulated.

KC-300 blue fibre was used In five out of the six months studied as one of the four
blue fibres in the blend. In April no Australian blue fibre was used, the blend of
-the other blue fibres making up the difference.

During April ultimate recovery was at the highest point of the six-month period, 94#. In the month of February more Australian blue fibre and less SC-300 was used in the blends than in any of the other five months, and during this month ultimate recovery was at the latest, 89#* as was one other month, January, when the ratio of Australian
to K0300 was about one-third to two-thirds.
SUMMARY
If, for the six-month period, ultimate recovery could have been achieved as that of April, about $22300. of savings could have been realized* Also, if African were used in direct substitution for the Australian fibre used, an additional $2500. of savings could have been realized.
The foregbing summarization is made thru use of statistical data. Ibctors relating to quality of product, feasibility of using Australian Blue fibre and/or its effect on the physical properties of the product would have to be determined thru more scientific research and analysis.
