Rhodes Date 4/28/75 Full Name National Gypsum 325 Delaware Avenue Address Buffalo, NY Mfrs. of Interviewed Mr. Frank Zimmerman OBSERVATIONS The writer was invited to attend the showing of two films: Killer Dust - A Standard Mistake (British TV) Living With Dust (Prepared by 3M Company) The British film opened with a scene in a flour mill to emphasize the dust problem since they could find no asbestos plant that looked bad enough. It went downhill from there as a running interview between Selikoff and the new TBA medical director. The basis for the 2 fibers limit was attacked by Selikoff with the usual fast statistics. The nub of the question seems to be in how the X-ray data should be read. A panel of 4 M.D.'s is now reviewing this. There is a companion 1 hour film that is aimed at the general (non-scientific) public that is highly emotional. We did not see this one. The 3M film was a soft sell for their dust masks and for hoods and similar equipment. It was well done but not particularly imformative. I had the opportunity to talk briefly with Frank Zimmerman. They are having some unspecified problems in Minnesota with their asbestos-free mud. He feels, however, that it is inevitable that this is the way of the future. Reminded him of impending silica regulations and he agrees that they will also be a real problem in muds as in many of their products. They are also continuing to track on a definition of what occurred in Hawaii regarding asbestos-free mud. ACTION In my opinion neither of these films would be useful to show at Niagara Falls or to recommend to customers. Typed 4/30/75 ds
