Turner April 7, 1987 SAFETY LOCK-OUT LOCKS It Is standard procedure to require mechanics and contractors to lock-out equipment with their personal safety lock prior to working on that equipment. However, operations has historically relied solely on the standard Vinyl Department lock-out lock (KA-1) before permitting operators to work on equipment. Effective Immediately, all operators will be required to lock-out equipment with their personal safety locks prior to working on equipment. The Shift Supervisors and Chief Lead Operators will also continue to lock-out the equipment with the KA-1 locks when issuing work permits. Jerald Uptaln is issuing new locks to all operators who do not currently, have one. This extension of the lock-out procedures to Include operators is Intended to prevent an injury due to mls-communlcatlons within operations. None of us should ever be willing to compromise our personal safety so I feel confident that everyone will use their lock. As with any safety procedure, failure to lock-out equipment prior to working on it will not be tolerated. C. W.
