TRANSPORTATION TO: MEMBERS OF THE LEAD INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION. INC. On Monday, June 4, 1979, Senator James A. McClure (R-Idaho), conducted a public hearing on behalf of the U. S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Transportation, for the purpose of obtaining testi mony from representatives of selected groups concern ing advancements and problems in the areas of law, technology and consumer acceptance with respect to the widespread use of the electric vehicle in the United States. Testimony centered on four areas: 1. Beneficial Social impact of Electric Vehicles, 2. Beneficial economic impact, 3. Pending legislation meant to increase the economic incentives to buyers and sellers of EV's, and 4. Effects of present anti-trust legislation on EV development plans by major auto manufacturers. Because of expected use of the lead acid batteries as a power source for Electric Vehicles, LIA and its member companies have a stake in the government's attitude to ward this important issue.
