... OSHA ALERTS CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY TO NEW HAZARD - Employers and employees in
the construction industry were served notice on March 27, 1974, by the Occupational
Safety and Health -Administration that the sanding of joints on dry-wall
construction is potentially hazardous. OSHA says that the asbestos fibers
contained in spackling and taping compounds used to cover dry-wall joints may
expose workers to more vapors of asbestos fibers than are pexmissable under
the OSHA Law. OSHA field staff personnel have been alerted to this potential
- hazard and will' be adding it to their list of inspection items.
