Wright - A2SC D&P D ivision does not support the suggestion that the 2,4-dichlorophenol sample fo r which some a n a ly tic a l questions need to be resolved be submitted for a chick edema bioassay. Such an experiment could not resolve th is discrepancy, and would y ie ld no useful information about potential health hazards from current operations a t Krummrich. We have no objection to carrying out such experiments on material representing current production, and T w ill ask Bruce Hammond to order these. They are v ir t u a lly ce rta in to turn out negative. The sample fo r which discrepant a n a ly tic a l results have been reported represents a portion of some 2,4-dichlorophenol s p ille d at WGK and 'scraped up from the ground. I have serious concerns about it s homogeneity and, its p u rity . Furthermore, the question raised by this discrepancy concerns the r e l i a b i l i t y o f analyses performed by the MidWest Mass Spectrometry Center, and th is question needs to be resolved independently. Jim Mieure, Bryan Ward and I w ill see that this is accomplished. By copy o f this memo I am asking B i l l Bennet to obtain current production samples o f OCP-crude, PCP, and 93%2,4-DCP, and to n o tify Bruce Hammond when these are obtained. James D.
