Preston Street Baltimore, Maryland 21202 Dear Ms. Finnegan: Your letter of November 27 has come to me as an utter surprise, since it appears that the publishers of the Harben Lectures, that is the Executive Committee of the Royal Society of Health and Hygiene is no more and suggests that the corresponding Society is no more, which is certainly not in accord with my concept of British Medical and Scientific Societies. I'm afraid that I, along with your colleagues in Williams and Wilkins am still alive, but in the wrong generation. By this remark, of course, I mean no discourtesy, but is so happens that I returned, so to speak, from the dead, to recover enough to pursue some of my own activities to their logical conclusion i.e. publication. As a matter of fact, I suffered, surprisingly, a cerebral hemorrhage in 1972, from which I almost failed to survive, but recoveringisome time later, a portion of my capacities^ I found the unpublished evidence of the continuing investigation, in a sorry state of neglect and decided that the entire set of material must be published. I have since done part of the work necessary for that purpose and I hope to^e able sometime to complete the task (within I should say, the next year,or two), for I have been greatly retarded by my disabilities. If certain obstacles have been or can be removed from my working with your company (if, of course),1 should be interested in so doing^ I shall indeed be pleased and will do everything I can, to produce a worthy manuscript. I have no material of the type of the Harben Lectures to send to you, for I had no thought at that time of the publishing of any of this material by any American group. However I do have one copy of a publication of the material in hard back form and numerous copies of the same material in soft backing. These do not have the name of your Company on them, for I had no idea of concerning your Company in this project. At that time I was quite familiar with the principals in the membership of the Royal Society of Health and Hygiene, but I have had no contact with them in recent years. Many of them )I suppose, have died t, for they were as old as I, or older at the time. Ms. Sara A. I cannot think of any reason for my having addressed your Company with its contents except that I received a letter from your Company on the day I write this letter. I believed when I asked Mrs. Isenhour for this letter that it had been addressed to London, not to Baltimore. However, I always think of Williams & Wilkins in connection with Medical Publication^and I automatically did thiSo evidently r.for that reason. So does the impaired brain work. I'm sorry, but I shall have to find out what the British group think of my situation before I can proceed further with this matter, but I shall let you know as soon as I can.
