The requirements are des cribed in the Federal Register, Vol. 38, No. 66, Paragraphs 61.22(e), (f), , and 61.23 dated April 6, 1973. These paragraphs are attached. C-pQ 0>l. t ~Z (cZ-J In essence, the requirements state that "spray-on materials used to insulate o'- fireproof buildings, structures, nines, and conduits shall contain less than one percent asbestos on a dry weight basis.11 Spray-on materials containing more than one percent asbestos may be used for certain applications, such as fireproofing or insulating equipment or machinery, providing there is no , visible emission to the outside air during application, or provisions are made for cleaning emissions. As of this date we have not received additional information from manufacturers of spray-on fireproofing materials containing more than one percent asbestos that suggests any changes in the EPA abestos requirement. In view of the current EPA requirements covering spray-on materials containing asbestos, we will proceed to withdraw Classification for all spray-applied materials under the Fire Resistance Category used to fireproof buildings or structures containing more than one percent asbestos on a dry weight basis. The withdrawls V7ill begin on October 1, 1975 and be completed by November ]., 1975. Manufacturers who wish to submit revised or new formula spray-on materials for investigation meeting the EPA asbestos requirement are asked to forward their request to Mr. R. M.
