OUTSTANDING SAFETY PERFORMANCE
The Technical Center has completed another month without a serious occupational Injury. We
have now worked over seven months without a Recordable injury and over two years without a \
Lost Workday Case injury.
/
CHANGES IN UCC INJURY CLASSIFICATION AND REPORTING On July 9th, John Nlcol of the Corporate Safety and Health Group will conduct training for UCC Kanawha and Ohio Valley Safety and Health employees on the new Bureau of Labor Injury and illness reporting requirements that UCC will adopt in July. Additional training sessions will be conducted for Technical Center management later in July.
ON-THE-JOB INJURY AND ILLNESS SUMMARY There were no Lost Workday Cases or Recordable Illnesses reported for the Technical Center or Construction in June. The only Recordable Injury was reported by Construction and the following is a brief summary of this injury.
o June 11 - Construction - An insulator bent over to pick up a piece of Insulation material and struck his right forearm against a roll of stainless steel weather barrier. He suffered a small laceration of his forearm that required two staples.
In May, the Construction Department was charged with one Recordable injury. This Injury involved an alleged embedded foreign body In an employee's eye. It was later determined that the employee did not have an embedded foreign body in his eye; therefore, this Injury will be deducted from Construction's year-to-date performance.
OFF-THE-JOB DISABLING INJURY SUMMARY The Technical Center reported only two off-the-job injuries in June. This brings the total OTJ-DI's to 24 for all functions. It is important to note that one of our June injuries occurred in May and we actually had only one OTJ-DI in June. The following is a brief summary of our June injuries:
o May 23 - Data Processing - The employee stepped on another player's foot while playing basketball, twisted his ankle and suffered a chipped bone in his right foot. This accident occurred at the Technical Center Recreation Building during the employee's lunch hour.
o June 6 - ICD/R4D - The employee was running down a hill after a ball and fell. He fell over a 3' wall and onto a street. He suffered a fractured clavicle and 5 fractured ribs.
SAFETY RECOGNITION LUNCHEON
On July 17th, the Central Safety Committee will sponsor a luncheon for all Technical Center and Construction Safety and Health Committee members at the Technical Center cafeteria. The
purpose of the luncheon is to recognize these employees for their dedicated service and to issue to the safety committee members as representatlves of all employees the 1985 Technical Center National Safety Council (NSC) Award of Merit. Mr. Bob Perry, the Vice President of EMTS, will be presenting this award to the committee members.
